Shimla: In a crackdown against Drug Smuggling in Himachal Pradesh, the state government has dismissed two police constables, Sandeep Kumar and Jugal Kishore, for their involvement in drug smuggling. The two were part of the Shimla Police and were allegedly linked to the notorious Shah syndicate.
Following Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s directive, both constables were served notices and given a chance to explain their involvement. After an unsatisfactory response, the CM’s office ordered their immediate termination.
The development comes amid a growing drug menace in the region. As per police sources, 24 government employees have been arrested in Shimla district alone in connection with Chitta (Heroin) smuggling. The list includes doctors, welfare officers, teachers, forest guards, and Patwaris.
In total over 60 government employees across the state are suspected of being involved in the drug trade. The police have submitted a list of these individuals to the government, recommending strict disciplinary action.
Shimla SP Sanjeev Gandhi said the district Police are running an aggressive anti-drug campaign titled “Mission Clean Bharosa”. “Whoever spread drugs addition in Shimla will not be spared,” he warned.
The crackdown signals a major shift in the state’s anti-drug policy, with the government now targeting its own employees complicit in the trade.
