Himachal: Illegal khair cutting in Trilokpur forest, 5000 trees cut

According to sources, thousands of green Khair trees have been felled from the forest at a short distance from the Range Officer's office of the Forest Department

A case of illegal Khair felling has come to light in the Trilokpur forest of the Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh. It is feared that about 5,000 Khair trees have been cut here. Not only this, the Khair mafia has uprooted the roots. Trees have been cut by digging up to three feet from the ground. Tree are being cut here for about 8 months. Contractors from not only Himachal but also Haryana are said to be involved in this Khair felling. According to sources, thousands of green Khair trees have been felled from the forest at a short distance from the Range Officer’s office of the Forest Department and the famous Balasundari Temple Trilokpur in Trilokpur.

The trees have been felled by digging up to three feet from the ground. But the remains and roots of the trees are present on the spot. Apart from this, hundreds of pits have been formed in the forest after felling the trees. If sources are to be believed, this illegal business has been going on for the last 8 months. Here, keeping the rules aside, about 5 thousand Khair trees have been felled on about 35 thousand bigha of land and disposed of in collusion. According to sources, trees are being sold overnight to factories or other places. It is surprising that this illegal business has been going on at such a large scale for many months and the concerned department is unaware of this.

If sources are to be believed, the Khair mafia had taken permission to cut Khair from farms or private land. But under the guise of this, thousands of trees were cut from the forest. Many questions arise on this. A long process has to be completed before permission is given. Let us tell you that there is a ban on cutting trees like Khair etc. from the forest bush type of land. Whether the land is private or government, Khair tree cannot be cut. The land in Mauja Trilokpur where Khair has been cut is said to be private. The type of land is jungle bush. Khair wood is in great demand in the market. Its price is in lakhs. It is said that a good Khair tree sells for up to one lakh rupees. In such a situation, the matter can be around crores.
