Himachal: Nuclear Medicine in Ner Chowk; Nephro, Neuro and Gastro departments approved for Hamirpur

It has also been decided to create and fill 118 posts for the smooth functioning of these departments.

All six medical colleges of Himachal Pradesh are being equipped with modern health facilities. The government has approved the establishment of the Nuclear Medicine Department in Medical College Nerchowk. At the same time, approval has been given to establish the Nephrology, Neurology, and Gastroenterology departments in Hamirpur Medical College. It has also been decided to create and fill 118 posts for the smooth functioning of these departments.

Apart from this, three Tesla MRI machines will be installed in Tanda, Hamirpur and Nerchowk Medical Colleges. In a survey conducted by the hospital administration as per the instructions of Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, it was found that the number of patients suffering from diseases related to kidneys, nerves and digestive system has increased.

Due to lack of specialist doctors, patients had to go to big medical institutions like Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) Shimla, Tanda Medical College Kangra, PGI Chandigarh. To provide relief to the patients, the Chief Minister has given instructions to speed up the process of establishment of new departments in the medical colleges of the state and appointment of necessary doctors and staff.

Three Tesla MRI machines are being installed in the medical colleges of Tanda, Hamirpur and Nerchowk. The existing MRI machine in IGMC is more than 19 years old, which will also be replaced soon. Chamiyana Hospital of Shimla district as well as all medical colleges, zonal and regional hospitals are being equipped with modern machines. The state government has made a provision of Rs 200 crore for modern health facilities in government hospitals.

After the establishment of the Department of Nuclear Medicine in Medical College Nerchowk, posts of Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, Senior Resident Doctor, Nuclear Medicine Technologist and Radiation Safety Officer will be created and filled for its smooth implementation. Apart from this, the government has also approved the filling of the post of Assistant Professor in the Department of Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion in the Department of Pathology in Nahan Medical College.
