Centre releases Rs 451 crore to Himachal Govt to compensate for losses due to disaster

According to the letter issued, this amount is the first installment of the central share of the National Disaster Response Fund

The Expenditure Department of the Finance Ministry of the Central Government has announced the release of Rs 451.44 crore to the state government from the National Disaster Response Fund. This amount has been released for reconstruction activities after the damage caused by the disaster in Himachal in 2023.

The ministry has categorically stated that the next installments will be released only when 75 percent of the previously allocated funds are used and a monitoring report on financial utilization is submitted. According to the letter issued, this amount is the first installment of the central share of the National Disaster Response Fund, which is 30 percent of the approved Rs 1504.80 crore.

It is noteworthy that the central government has sanctioned an amount of Rs 2006 crore, in which the state’s share will be around Rs 500 crore. Strict guidelines have also been laid down for the use of the assistance amount released.

The Home Ministry will have to inform the Expenditure Department of the Finance Ministry of the component-wise and item-wise amount within 15 days of the release of the fund. The National Disaster Management Authority will monitor and supervise the implementation of reconstruction and recovery projects.

The Authority will, in coordination with the Ministry of Home Affairs, develop a monitoring framework for the implementation of recovery and reconstruction activities in the project, including geo-tagging of reconstructed properties.
