Preparations have intensified to stop the electricity subsidy of class one and two category officers in Himachal Pradesh. The Treasury, Accounts and Lottery Department has handed over the list of officers falling under this purview to the Electricity Board. The Electricity Board management has also issued instructions to the field officers to mark the electricity accounts of all such consumers. Now, as soon as the instructions of the government are received, the electricity subsidy of these consumers will be stopped from January 1, 2025.
The Electricity Board management has issued instructions to the Chief Engineers (Operations) of Shimla, Mandi, Kangra and Hamirpur zones to mark the accounts of class one and two category employees and pensioners in all subordinate offices. The process of stopping electricity subsidy will be done in a phased manner. In December 2024, Chief Minister Sukhu had decided to stop the electricity subsidy being given to class one and two level officers from January 1, 2025. This decision was taken to strengthen the financial position of the Electricity Board and make it self-reliant. During this time, the Chief Minister had appealed to the people of the state to voluntarily give up electricity subsidy. First of all, the Chief Minister himself gave up his subsidy.
So far, 18,613 consumers in the state have voluntarily given up electricity subsidy. These include 8620 employees-officers and 8477 pensioners. Now the Electricity Board management has prepared the list of class one and two level officers through the Treasury, Accounts and Lottery Department. In such a situation, orders to stop the subsidy of these employees, officers and pensioners can be issued soon.
