Shimla: From the new year, pulses will start being available in fair-price shops in the state. The State Supply Corporation has supplied pulses to the godowns. From January, people will be able to buy cheap pulses from the depots. Two months’ quota will be available together. At present, no significant change has been seen in the prices of pulses.
Urad Dal reached the godowns a week ago. Due to the early arrival of pulses in the depots, the consumers of the state will get relief from buying pulses which are available at double the price in the markets. 1.60 lakh quintals of pulses have been supplied by the State Supply Corporation across the state, in which 80 thousand quintals are only gram dal.
The remaining 80 thousand quintals of pulses are Malka Masoor and Urad dal. The corporation has purchased the buffer stock of pulses from the Government of India. The two-month quota of pulses purchased by the corporation after testing the quality will be given to the consumers together from next month, in which all consumers are getting chana dal at Rs 65 per kg, Malka Masoor at Rs 56 for BPL, Rs 66 for APL and Rs 91 per kg for income tax payers.
There are a total of 5300 depots of the Food Supply Department in the state and a total of 19.65 lakh ration card holders, who are taking advantage of the cheap ration provided by the department. The corporation will provide full ration in the state from next month. At the same time, the tender for oil is also likely to be done in the first week of January.
Ration card consumers will get urad dal at cheaper rates in the ration depots from the new year. However, income tax payers will get it at a higher price. NFSA (National Food Security Act) consumers will get urad dal at the rate of Rs 58 per kg. Earlier its price was Rs 63 per kg. The price of urad for APL families has been fixed at Rs 68 per kg. Earlier, these families were being given urad dal at the rate of Rs 73 per kg in the depots. Income tax payers will now get urad dal at the rate of Rs 93 per kg. Earlier it was Rs 83 per kg. Civil Supply Area Manager Sanjeev Verma said that 2900 quintals of urad dal has been received for Una and Hamirpur districts.
