Shimla, June 26: Rain caused a lot of destruction in Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday. The streams of 3 districts Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti and Kangra got flooded and more than 9 people went missing. However, the bodies of 2 people have been recovered.
According to the official information of the administration, more than 6 people are missing in Khaniyara in Kangra and 3 people are missing in Raila Bihal of Sainj in Kullu. However, the administration suspects that their number could be up to 15 to 20. Search operation is going on to find them.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rains in 10 districts Bilaspur, Chamba, Hamirpur, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur, Solan and Una today. An advisory has also been issued that locals and tourists should not go to rivers, streams and landslide prone areas.
Apart from this, cloudburst near Jiva Nala of Sainj in Kullu, Shilagarh of Gadsa, Snow Gallery of Manali and Hornagad of Banjar on Wednesday caused a lot of destruction. Due to this, more than 2 thousand tourists got stranded in different areas of Kullu district. However, all of them are safe in hotels and homestays.
Tourist vehicles stranded in these areas
Most of the tourists are stranded in Tirthan Valley, Shangarh, Jibhi, Shoja, Kasol and Sainj Valley. The roads connecting these areas have been blocked after heavy rains. Today, after the restoration of roads, the district administration is claiming to evacuate all tourist vehicles safely. Meanwhile, in Spiti too, some tourists were stranded after the road was closed. All of them were safely taken to hotels and homestays at night.
8 vehicles washed away, 4 houses damaged
After heavy rains, more than 8 vehicles were washed away in the strong current of the drain in these areas. A school, a Patwar circle, a Gaushala, 4 houses, a power project and more than 10 small bridges have also been damaged in the rain.
MLA said – 15 to 20 workers were swept away in Khaniyara
On the other hand, the workers staying in the shed have gone missing after the flood caused by cloudburst in Manuni Khad of Khaniyara in Dharamshala. MLA Sudhir Sharma has put their number at 15 to 20. However, the administration has not been able to tell the number of missing workers with certainty.
Kangra DC Hemraj Bairwa has reported 6 workers missing after head count. He has also said that the number of missing workers could be higher. However, the bodies of two have been recovered. A search operation was launched to find the others, which will continue today as well.
It is being told that there was a flood in Manuni Khad at around 2:30 pm on Wednesday. During this time, some workers engaged in the construction of the power project ran away to save their lives, while some were swept away. The machinery used in the construction of the power project is also said to have suffered major damage due to heavy rain.
