Shimla, July 5: The situation remains serious regarding the pending payments of retired employees in Himachal Pradesh. Out of about two lakh pensioners in the state, there are 25 thousand employees who have retired between January 2016 and January 2022 and are facing the most problems.
Rs. 1100 crore due, government’s silence continues
Additional General Secretary of Himachal Pradesh Pensioner Welfare Association, Jagat Singh Negi, informed in a press conference in Rampur that a total payment of Rs. 1100 crore of these 25 thousand retired employees is pending on the government. This includes commutation, gratuity, leave encashment and arrears.
Chief Minister cited poor economic conditions
The current president of the association, Atmaram Sharma and his team organized peaceful rallies across the state and also met Rural Development Minister Anirudh Singh Rana regarding their demands. On meeting Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, they got only assurances, in which the Chief Minister cited the poor economic condition of the state.
Medical bills of 70-80 year old pensioners are also pending
Medical bills worth lakhs of rupees of pensioners who have crossed the age of 70-80 years are also pending with the government. On an average, ₹18-20 lakh per employee and ₹40-50 lakh of officers are pending.
Next strategy will be decided after the election
The association said that the future strategy will be made after the election of the new executive of the organization to be held in Sundarnagar. The pensioners have demanded immediate relief from the government.
