Shimla: Woman dies after giving birth at Kamla Nehru Hospital, family alleges negligence

The family alleges that the woman had difficulty breathing during the meal, and she died around 9:00 am.

There was a ruckus at Kamla Nehru Hospital in Shimla on Friday morning after the death of a 28-year-old woman. The woman had given birth to a healthy son through cesarean at 11:17 pm on Thursday night.

The family alleging negligence said that the woman’s condition was normal till morning, but despite her ill health, the hospital staff asked her to eat food.

The family alleges that the woman had difficulty breathing during the meal, and she died around 9:00 am.

Family accused of negligence 

After the death, the atmosphere in the hospital premises became tense. The family accused the hospital management of negligence. Family members said that the staff should have been more cautious considering the condition of the woman.

Doctors investigating the matter: Medical Superintendent 

Medical Superintendent of Kamla Nehru Hospital Shimla, Dr. Sundar Singh Negi, said that initially it was suspected that the woman may have died due to suffocation, but it has not been confirmed yet. He said that the team of doctors is closely investigating the cause of death.

The woman’s health was normal after delivery, and no serious problem was recorded till night. This was her second delivery and there were no health complications before this. The baby is currently normal and is under the observation of doctors. The actual cause of the woman’s death will be clear only after the post-mortem report comes.
