Himachal: Teacher sentenced to 25 years imprisonment in case of rape of a student

Additional District and Sessions Judge and Special Judge (POCSO) has sentenced a teacher found guilty of raping a minor girl to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of 25 thousand. The court has recommended that the District Legal Services Authority to pay four lakh compensation to the victim. The convicted teacher is a resident of Tehsil Theog.

According to the case, the victim was a student of class VIII in a private school. On November 8, 2022, the girl went to school, but did not return home in the evening. On the complaint of the victim’s mother, the police registered a case at the Deha police station. Investigation revealed that the teacher was also missing from home. During the investigation, his location was found in Bhuntar area of ​​​​Kullu district. On November 18, the police recovered the accused and the victim from a hotel in Jagatsukh.

The victim gave a statement that she had left home for family reasons and went with the teacher. During this time the teacher raped her. Sub-district jurist Sangeeta Jasta said that the prosecution presented 18 witnesses to prove the case. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court convicted the teacher and sentenced him. The court remarked that the victim trusted the teacher, but he took undue advantage of her and not only kidnapped her but also sexually abused her.
