Water schemes in Himachal Pradesh are on the target of thieves. The time has come to monitor them with CCTV cameras. Provision is being made to install CCTV cameras on all schemes in a phased manner. Thieves are targeting the machinery of these crores of rupees worth drinking water and irrigation schemes for a few thousand rupees. They are stealing copper and other equipment and selling them in the market. Officials suspect that a gang of thieves is active in this. Drinking water and irrigation schemes are getting affected in many areas of the state, causing problems due to this.
Apart from the machinery of irrigation and drinking water lifting schemes, thieves are also targeting the electric transformers attached to them. In the recent past, machinery of dozens of schemes has been stolen. The Jal Shakti Department is concerned about this. The transformers and machinery of these schemes contain copper and other metals. These are sold as scrap in the market.
Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri is in charge of the Jal Shakti Department. He expressed concern over the theft of the department’s machinery. He said that CCTV cameras are being installed in many areas to monitor these schemes. It is easy to stop theft in hilly areas, but it is an even bigger problem in border areas.
It is true that the machines of the Jal Shakti Department have been targeted by the ghouls. Wherever this machinery is located, the local administration is being requested to pay attention to its security. Provision is being made to install CCTV cameras in a phased manner. As soon as there is provision in the budget, we will move forward in this direction.
