Shimla: Hariman Sharma, who cultivates apples in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, will be awarded the Padma Shri. The central government has announced the names of the persons to be honored with the Padma Awards 2025 on Saturday, a day before Republic Day. This time 113 personalities have been selected for the Padma Shri award. One of them is Hariman Sharma, who belongs to Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh.
Let us tell you that Hariman Sharma set an example by producing HRMN-99 variety of apples in Bilaspur. It is generally said that apples are produced in cold areas. For this, areas with an altitude of 5000 feet to 15000 feet above sea level are considered better. But Hariman Sharma has cultivated apples at an altitude of about 2250 feet.
Hariman Sharma has earlier won 19 national and 15 state level awards. He has also received five district and sub-division level awards. Hariman Sharma, the father of apple revolution in hot regions, is spreading its fragrance in the garden of Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi.
Two thousand plants have been prepared in Nagpur, Maharashtra, while one and a half lakh plants of HRMN-99 variety are blooming in the whole of Maharashtra. His apple variety is being produced in 29 states of the country.
Growing a big nursery in Paniala in Bilaspur
He has a big nursery of apple at a place called Paniala in Ghumarwin area of Bilaspur district, where apple plants are being grown. He is associated with National Innovation Foundation Gandhinagar Gujarat and he sends his plants to the states according to the demand through this foundation.
Started research on new variety of apple in 1999
Hariman told that he started research on new variety in the year 1999. He got success in the seventh year i.e. 2006. At that time no one believed him. In the year 2007, he presented apple and mango fruits to the then Chief Minister in the Secretariat. After this, the then Chief Minister held a meeting of horticulture officials. In this, he told everyone that apples are being grown in warm regions as well.
