Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri said that HRTC will buy 1,000 new buses this year. These will be replaced with old buses. An order for the purchase of 600 buses has been issued. This also includes 327 electric buses. Tempo travellers will run on routes where the number of passengers is less. On the question of BJP MLA Randhir Sharma, Agnihotri said that Rs 110 crore has been released to build charging stations.
The government is planning to include 1,500 electric buses. This will be completed in various phases. Electric buses are being purchased in a phased manner to replace the HRTC fleet. Currently, an order for 327 electric buses has been issued. The bus manufacturing company has asked for 11 months to deliver them.
The cost of electric buses will be around Rs 1.25 crore per bus. The company that is supplying these buses will be responsible for the maintenance of these buses for the next 10 years. HRTC will buy 250 diesel buses on its own. 100 tempo travellers will be bought for hilly and remote areas. He said that this purchase is being made with the financial support of the state government and NABARD. The Deputy Chief Minister said that the state government had proposed to make some changes in the Type-2 electric buses according to the geographical conditions of Himachal but the central government has refused to allow this change.
