Students studying MBBS at Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital, Shimla have written a letter to the Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court. In the letter the students have demanded a solution to their problems. The students have mentioned all the shortcomings including the inconvenience in the hostel in the medical college, the security arrangements for the female students.
IGMC Student Union President Ankit Thakur said that the students have met everyone from the administration to the Chief Minister regarding their problems but their demands have not been heard. Due to this they are now forced to write a letter to the Chief Justice of the High Court and demand intervention.
IGMC Central Students Association (SCA) wrote in a letter to the Chief Justice of HC that they want to draw attention to the problems faced by MBBS students in IGMC Shimla, which are affecting their academic environment and security and the all-round development of the students.
MBBS students wrote in the letter that the arrangement of lecture rooms in IGMC is not suitable for the increasing number of students. The students said that these rooms were built as LT 3 and LT 4 with a capacity of 60 students. But today the number of students in a batch has doubled, there is a batch of 120 students due to which the classes are getting crowded, due to which the students are facing huge problems in concentrating on their studies.
Apart from this, the students who work 24 hours a day are facing the problem of parking. The students have written that the parking facility which was available in the hostel earlier, has also been stopped now. Due to lack of parking facilities in and around the campus, students and staff are facing inconveniences daily.
The students have told in a letter to the High Court that the hostel facility was initially designed for 50 students, but now the batch size has increased to 120. Due to this many students, especially first-year students, do not get hostels and they are forced to arrange expensive accommodation outside to live. Due to this unnecessary financial burden increases on them. The students demanded that hostel facilities be provided near IGMC. The students have said in the letter that due to the unavailability of suitable space near the medical college, there is a lack of proper outdoor sports facilities for the students, in such a situation there should be at least a gym facility in the hostel.
