Dharamshala: In Himachal Pradesh, Radha Swami Satsang Beas has got permission to transfer 30 acres of land to the name of an associate organization. Under pressure from religious organizations, the Himachal government has had to change the Land Ceiling Act itself. Now other religious institutions will also be able to transfer the same amount of land.
For this, the Congress government passed the Himachal Pradesh Land Holding Maximum Limit Amendment Bill 2024 in the Assembly on Friday. In this, the government has decided to give exemption in 5 (I) of the Act. After passing in the Assembly, it will be sent for the President’s approval. After this, an exemption will be available.
Now, after the amendment in the Land Ceiling Act made in 1972, the structure built on 30 acres of land for charity can be transferred. Earlier, the transfer of land donated by people to religious institutions was not allowed.
Experts believe that with this amendment, other religious institutions will also form trusts and transfer the land donated by people for free. This can lead to misuse of the land donated by the people. The Congress government itself had made a law to ban the sale of donated land. Now the Congress government itself has amended the law to transfer it. Agriculture Minister Chandra Kumar has also expressed concern while speaking in the House.
