Shimla: A large number of tourists are heading towards the mountains to escape the scorching heat in the plains of the country. This time, a record number of tourists are reaching the mountains for a visit. According to the police, this time, 5,12,373 vehicles have reached Shimla from all over the country from June 1 to 12. This is 47,191 vehicles more than last year.
In Shimla, the queen of mountains, 4,65,182 vehicles reached Shimla from June 1 to 12 last year, and 3,22,172 vehicles reached Shimla in the year 2022. Apart from Shimla, a lot of tourists are also reaching other tourist places. Due to this, the occupancy in the hotels of most tourist places has increased to more than 90 per cent. It increases further on weekends.
Apart from Shimla, tourists are also reaching Manali, Manikaran, Dharamshala, Rohtang, Dalhousie, McLeodganj, Bharmour, etc. in large numbers. This has increased the liveliness at tourist attractions. This is a good sign for the tourism business in the state.
Tourists are turning to the mountains to escape the scorching heat in the plains. However, in most of the cities in the state, the temperature is 5–6 degrees higher than normal. But compared to the other areas, Shimla, Narkanda, Kufri, Mahasu Peak, Khajjiar, Dalhousie, and McLeodganj have pleasant weather. The temperature in these cities is between 22 and 33 degrees Celsius.
Shimla hotelier Ashwani Sood said that due to the heat in the plains, a good number of tourists are reaching Shimla. He said that a good tourist season is expected throughout June. The International Summer Festival is starting in Shimla on June 15. This will increase the number of tourists in the coming days, and tourists will be able to enjoy good entertainment.
Manali Hotel Association President Anoop Thakur said that due to the Lok Sabha elections last month, fewer tourists were coming to the mountains. But in June, the tourism business picked up at a good pace. He said that this time, due to the high heat, a large number of tourists are coming. Due to this, the occupancy in the hotels is 90 to 95 per cent.
