Himachal pradesh : During the Lok Sabha elections, the Excise Department has taken strict action against the illegal liquor trade in districts Sirmaur, Solan, Hamirpur, Kangra, Shimla, Kullu and Mandi within the last two weeks and recovered 1,16,621 liters of illegal liquor and liquor. Excise Commissioner Dr. Yunus said here today that after the release of the notification for Lok Sabha elections, the department has formed task force teams and flying squads (FS) in all the districts of the state. 59 teams of the department are continuously monitoring and taking action in the state against them.
The Commissioner said that action is also being taken by coordinating with the nodal officers of neighboring states. The task force of the department is also taking strict action against the people involved in storing illegal liquor in the border areas. He told that recently, on the basis of secret information, an intensive search operation of about 13 kilometers was conducted in the dense forests of Khara village near Paonta Sahib by the team of the department in Sirmaur district on the basis of secret information to arrest the illegal liquor distilleries and people involved in this business. The team seized distilleries of illegal liquor and drums filled with liquor at different places. The departmental team took prompt action before any untoward incident took place and destroyed approximately 61,000 liters of illegal Lahan as per the Himachal Pradesh Excise Act, 2011. Its estimated price is Rs 61 lakh.
Dr Yunus also said that in view of the free and fair elections in Himachal Pradesh, to prevent any kind of illegal activity, the department will coordinate with the excise officials of the border states and Himachal Police and take action as per rules against the people involved in the illegal liquor business. He said that during the last 2 weeks, the Excise Department has collected 63515 liters in district Sirmaur, 10824 liters in Hamirpur, 18020 liters in Solan, 2316 liters in Kangra, 1271 liters in Kullu, 1526 liters in Shimla, 768 liters in Mandi and 324 liters of illicit liquor has been seized in Chamba. He said that the department is ensuring a policy of zero tolerance in cases of illicit liquor and tax evasion. The department has also recently seized 3 kg silver worth Rs 2,49,000.
