Actually, when something passes faster than the speed of sound, a sound like an explosion is heard. This sound is called sonic boom. Sonic booms produce large amounts of sound energy. Actually, when airplanes travel faster than the speed of sound. This is called supersonic speed. An aircraft produces sound waves while moving in the air.
When the aircraft travels at speeds less than the speed of sound, there is no significant difference. But when an aircraft travels faster than the speed of sound, it creates a sonic boom. A large amount of sound energy is generated. In this situation, no sound is heard before the arrival of the aircraft but such sound is felt only after the aircraft passes.
