Manali-Mandi highway reopens after 12 hours: Power cut in Manali lasts 50 hours

After heavy rain and snowfall in Kullu-Manali, life is slowly returning to normal. The Manali-Mandi national highway which was closed for the last 12 hours is now completely open.

Shimla: After heavy rain and snowfall in Kullu-Manali, life is slowly returning to normal. The Manali-Mandi national highway which was closed for the last 12 hours is now completely open. The highway blocked in Raison and Shastrinagar of Kullu has also been restored.

Due to heavy rains in Shastri Nagar, water from the drains came on the road. Due to this, many vehicles got stuck in the debris. They could not be removed in the darkness of the night. As soon as the weather cleared on Saturday morning, the administration started the rescue work. Officials are assessing the damage caused by rain and snowfall.

Electricity supply has been disrupted in Manali for the last 50 hours. Due to this, most of the tourists are returning. However, tourists are staying in hotels which have generator facilities. They are enjoying the fresh snowfall. In Manali, tourists are having fun at Mall Road as well as other tourist places.

Vehicles completely banned beyond Nehrukund:

Manali administration has completely banned the movement of vehicles beyond Nehrukund due to heavy snow on the Manali-Keylong road. As per the latest data, after fresh snowfall at various places from Manali and Manali to Keylong, a layer of snow of 1.5 feet has been formed in Manali, 3 feet in Solangnala, 5 and a half feet in Dhundhi, 6 and a half feet at South Portal of Atal Tunnel Rohtang, 4 feet at North Portal of Atal Tunnel and Sissu, 2 and a half feet in Udaipur, 2 feet 9 inches in Keylong while 2 feet 2 inches of snow has been formed in Kaza.

The Border Roads Organisation has started the work of restoring the Manali Keylong and Keylong Darcha road. According to the officials, the road from Manali to Darcha will be restored soon for the movement of 4×4 vehicles and the road from Manali to Gulaba Barrier will be restored in two to three days if the weather is clear.

Regarding restoration of power supply in Manali, departmental officials say that power supply will be restored in Manali city on Saturday evening while in other areas on Sunday.
