Shimla: A massive landslide occurred this morning on the Shimla-Bilaspur-Kangra National Highway connecting the capital of Himachal to Lower Himachal. The hill cracked near Karadaghat in Solan district on the NH at around 8 am. Due to this, the highway is completely closed for vehicles as of now.
The machinery of the Public Works Department is engaged in removing the debris on the spot. However due to the large amount of debris and stones, it is taking time to restore it. Due to this, long queues of vehicles have been formed on both sides of the highway.
Tourists including school children, working people, and local people are also stuck in traffic jams.
The local administration has appealed to the people to use the connecting road via Ghanagughat and Piplughat in case of emergency. But this connecting road is narrow therefore movement of big vehicles is not possible from the alternate road.
Let us tell you that this highway connects Lower Himachal to Shimla. People from 9 out of 12 districts of the state reach Shimla through this highway. Due to its closure, more than half of Himachal has lost its connection with the capital.
