The 800 MW Parbati Hydroelectric Project Phase-2 has been completed in Sainj Valley of Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh. This project, which has been completed after about two and a half decades, will illuminate 10 states including Himachal. The trial for production in the project has been started, which will continue till the first week of April. After the trial is successful, the date of its inauguration will be decided. Prime Minister Narendra Modi may come to Himachal for the inauguration. The management is busy in preparations to get it inaugurated by the PM. The trial of the project has started from March 15.
It has four turbines of 200 MW each. All the four power units are being run in turns. Apart from Himachal, Chandigarh, Delhi, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh will get electricity from the project. Let us tell you that the foundation stone of the project was laid by former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee on 12 December 1999. Its construction work started in the year 2001. NHPC had set a target of completing the construction work of the project in 2007, but due to many problems during construction, the target could not be achieved. As the construction work got delayed, its cost increased.
Cost reached 13,045 crores
During the construction, due to the hill cracking in Siund near Sainj, the target of the project was changed from 2007 to 2014. After this, the work remained closed for about four years due to the TBM getting stuck in the headrace tunnel Barshaini. By constructing a 32 km long tunnel, the water of Parvati river, Hurla and Manihar Nala has been diverted into it. In the initial phase, the total cost of the project was about 3,919 crores. But due to the delay in the work, an estimated 13,045 crores were spent on its construction.
The work of the project has been completed. The trial of the turbines of the project has started from March 15. 800 MW of electricity will be generated from all the four turbines. The trial will continue till the first week of April. After this the inauguration process will be started
