To compensate for the loss caused by the flood in July 2023 in Rampur, the Himachal Pradesh government distributed the money of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Disaster) to the disaster affected. On this, the Block Development Officer (BDO) Rampur issued recovery notices. When the matter reached the High Court, the court stayed the recovery notice. The next hearing of the case will be on March 25.
The Himachal government had issued a special package for the disaster affected. Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu visited the disaster affected areas in Rampur and directed the Patwaris and Panchayat Secretaries of the concerned area to give the names and addresses of the affected.
After the names and addresses of the affected were revealed, their losses were investigated. After this, the government released the amount in three installments in the accounts of 17 affected people of Jury’s Kyao village as relief. When the BDO investigated, it was found that the affected people were allotted the money of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Disaster), for which they were not eligible. After this, on February 4, the BDO issued a recovery notice to the affected and ordered them to return the money within 15 days. The affected filed a petition in the High Court against the BDO’s order.
The petition said that the affected were not given a chance to present their case. After verification, the government found that the people to whom this money was issued were not eligible under this scheme. The petitioners said that they had not even applied under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The people of the village had sought relief from the government.
This amount was allocated by the government to those people whose houses were either washed away or cracks appeared in the houses during the disaster. Now the court of High Court Judge Ranjan Sharma has stayed the recovery order of the BDO. The court has also ordered the government and other respondents to respond within four weeks.
