Kangra: The process of expansion of Kangra Airport, Himachal’s biggest and most ambitious project, has started gaining momentum. To ensure that the affected people do not have to face immediate problems, land acquisition work will be done in three phases. In the first phase, the process of land acquisition will be carried out from Gaggal Bazaar to Manjhi Bridge. After the sanction of Rs 980 crore by the state government, the process of releasing the compensation amount will be expedited as soon as Section 19(2) is declared. About 1200 families will be displaced due to the expansion of Kangra Airport, which is important from the point of view of tourism and security.
Therefore, the administration is going to do the land acquisition process in three phases. The biggest advantage of this will be that, due to phase-wise land acquisition, people will not have to be disturbed much. With the expansion of the airport, the fares will decrease due to the increase in the number of flights, while the influx of tourists will also provide employment opportunities to the local people. For airport expansion, land of about 1200 families will be acquired from 14 villages. For acquisition, the government has identified about 147 hectares (about 3847 canals) of government and private land in 14 villages.
In this, 123 hectares of private and 24 hectares of government land have been identified. On the other hand, after the seriousness of the government, the district administration has also completed all the formalities related to the expansion and has moved the work forward so that this work can be started on time. The Airport Authority of India is also waiting for the state government to complete the formalities.
