Shimla, May 23: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM) protested against the increase in bus fares in Himachal Pradesh in Shimla today. On behalf of the CPIM Local Committee Centre, a protest was held outside the office of Managing Director of Path Parivahan Nigam located at the old bus stand on Friday.
During this, CPIM workers raised slogans against the state government and demanded the state government to roll back the hike in fares. CPIM leaders alleged that the state government has increased the fares at a time when the common people are already facing the brunt of inflation.
According to the party, the government has increased the minimum bus fare by 100%, from Rs 5 to Rs 10. This has put a huge financial burden on the common man. The party also alleged that when the country was going through a serious situation like India-Pakistan tension, the government quietly increased the bus fare by 15% so that the voices of protest could be suppressed.
Students’ bus pass charges also increased
CPIM leaders have also raised questions on students’ bus passes and private school bus services. They said that now private school buses are charging Rs 1800 per student per month instead of Rs 600, which is a big injustice to students and parents.
Party secretary Sanjay Chauhan said that this is a symbolic demonstration. He said that it was handed over to the Deputy Chief Minister and Transport Minister through the Managing Director. In this, a demand will be made to immediately withdraw the increase in bus fare. He claimed that in Himachal Pradesh now the highest bus fare is being charged as compared to other states of the country.
Chauhan said that if the state government does not take back the decision, a big movement will be organized in the coming times by mobilizing the people and this will create deep resentment among the people.
