Shimla: PWD is facing a huge loss during the ongoing rains amid a yellow alert in the state. A loss of Rs 4 crore has been incurred in the last 24 hours. With this, the loss of the department has now increased to Rs 105 crore, or Rs 33 lakh. The department has deployed heavy machinery for the improvement of roads.
In some areas, work is being carried out by hiring machines from private contractors. PWD has suffered the most losses in the Kangra and Mandi zones. A loss of Rs 33 crore 72 lakh has been recorded in the Mandi zone and Rs 33 crore 55 lahks in the Kangra zone.
Apart from this, a loss of Rs 23 crore 38 lakh has been recorded in the Hamirpur zone, while a loss of Rs 11 crore 88 lakh has been recorded in Shimla so far. Apart from this, a loss of Rs 2 crore (77 lakh) has been recorded in both national highway zones. Out of these, a loss of Rs 2 crore has been recorded in Shahpur and Rs 77 lakh in Shimla.
The Disaster Management Department’s report now shows a total loss of over Rs 175 crore due to the increase in PWD losses. PWD has restored 16 roads in the last 24 hours. 29 roads were blocked across the state, and now 13 of these roads are blocked. 956 drinking water schemes in the Jal Shakti Department have been disrupted. Out of these, the maximum 308 were affected in Sundarnagar, 97 in Kullu, 87 in Shimla, 82 in Dharampur, 83 in Dharamshala, 72 in Chamba, 61 in Bilaspur, 34 in Nurpur, 32 in Rohru, 24 in Nahan, 23 in Solan, and 18 drinking water schemes in Rekong Peo and Hamirpur.
The Jal Shakti Department has restored 837 of these projects. There has been no major increase in the loss of the Water Power Department in the last 24 hours. The loss of the Water Power Department is Rs 67 crore.
