Rain alert in 5 districts of Himachal today: Apple crop damaged due to hailstorm

Orange alert for rain and storm has been issued in 5 districts of Himachal Pradesh today. Hailstorms and storm alerts have been issued in Shimla, Kangra, Mandi, Sirmour and Kullu districts of the state.

Shimla, May 4: Orange alert for rain and storm has been issued in 5 districts of Himachal Pradesh today. Hailstorms and storm alerts have been issued in Shimla, Kangra, Mandi, Sirmour and Kullu districts of the state. There is a possibility of storm with a speed of 40-50 km per hour in these areas. The rain is forecast to continue from 4 to 9 May.

In Shimla, apple crop has been damaged due to hailstorm in the upper regions yesterday. Apple, cauliflower and pea crops have also been destroyed in Fagu, Kufri, Theog, Cheog, Kotgarh, Kumarsain and Narkanda.

Anti hail net broken due to hailstorm

Tomatoes in Solan and garlic in Sirmaur suffered heavy losses. Hailstorms have occurred in many places across the state. Due to which crops have been damaged. However, Shimla has suffered the most damage.

The hailstorm that occurred in the upper regions of Shimla last evening was so intense that the anti-hail nets installed to protect the apples also broke. The hailstones left deep marks on the apple grains. It is estimated that farmers across the state will suffer losses worth crores of rupees due to the hailstorm.

Fall in temperature in hilly areas

Due to heavy rain and hailstorm in the state, the temperature in the hilly areas has dropped. The maximum temperature of Chamba has dropped to 18.3 degrees Celsius, 18.1 degrees below normal. The temperature in Manali dropped by 8.9 degrees to 15.0 degrees, in Dalhousie it dropped by 8.5 degrees to 14.6 degrees and in Dharamsala it dropped by 5.8 degrees to 24.0 degrees Celsius.
