Shimla: The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has appointed Rajni Patil as the new in-charge of Himachal Congress. After the approval of National President Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal issued orders late night.
Rajni Patil is originally from Maharashtra. She is a Rajya Sabha MP. Rajni Patil will now replace Rajiv Shukla in Himachal. Rajiv Shukla’s tenure had exceeded four years. That is why he has been replaced.
Rajni Patil has been in charge of Himachal earlier too
Rajni Patil has been in charge of Himachal Congress earlier as well. She was appointed in charge of Himachal Congress for the first time on 22 May 2018. In September 2020, she was removed and Rajiv Shukla was made in charge of Himachal.
Big responsibility before the 2027 elections
The Congress high command has entrusted her with this important responsibility for the second time before the 2027 assembly elections. The Congress organization in Himachal has been dissolved for more than three months. At such a time, Rajni Patil has got this responsibility. It is obvious that her role is going to be important in forming the new organization.
Who is Rajni Patil?
Rajni Patil was born on 5 December 1958. She represents Maharashtra in the Rajya Sabha. She was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2013 after the death of former Maharashtra CM Vilasrao Deshmukh.
Rajini first won the Beed Lok Sabha election in 1996 under the BJP banner but later joined the Indian National Congress.
In-charges of 14 states were appointed
Along with Himachal, Congress has appointed in-charges in 14 states and 2 general secretaries. Rajni Patil has been appointed in-charge of Chhattisgarh along with Himachal. She will handle the responsibility of two states.
