Rapist sentenced to 10 years in Chamba; Court imposed fine of Rs 1 lakh

After the statements of 20 witnesses in the court in the case registered under the POCSO Act, District and Sessions Judge Chamba pronounced the verdict declaring the accused guilty.

Chamba: The court of Session Judge Jaswant Singh Thakur in Chamba convicted the accused of rape and sentenced him to 10 years of imprisonment. Also, a fine of Rs 1 lakh has been imposed on the accused. If the accused does not pay the fine, he will have to undergo an additional one year of imprisonment.

According to the information, the victim’s mother complained in the police station that on November 10, 2019, her minor daughter was kidnapped by Sunny, a resident of Chamba. After this, he stayed in Hoshiarpur with their minor girl from 12 to 23 November 2019. The victim told her mother that there he raped her daughter and threatened to kill her.

On November 25, 2019, Sunny was caught by the police team in the area adjoining the district headquarters on the basis of secret information and the minor girl was also recovered. The police team prepared a challan on the basis of the statements of the victim’s mother and presented it in court. After the statements of 20 witnesses in the court in the case registered under the POCSO Act, District and Sessions Judge Chamba pronounced the verdict declaring the accused guilty.
