Sanjay Kumar hoisted the tricolor on the 8,485 meter high Mount Makalu peak

Assistant Commandant Sanjay Kumar of Indo-Tibetan Border Police ITBP has set a record by successfully climbing Mount Makalu 8,485 meters, the world’s fifth highest peak located in Nepal. Currently, Sanjay Kumar is serving in Chhattisgarh as Assistant Commandant. There is an atmosphere of happiness among the family members and villagers of Sanjay, who lives in Kanjyan Panchayat of Bhoranji subdivision of Hamirpur district, due to this achievement.

A force-level mountaineering expedition was conducted by ITBP for Mount Makalu 8485 meters and Mount Annapurna 8091 meters located in Nepal during the year 2025. In this expedition, Assistant Commandant Sanjay Kumar was appointed as the Deputy Team Leader for the Mount Makalu team.

For this expedition, the mountaineering team of ITBP left for Nepal from Delhi Headquarters on March 22 and left for Makalu region from Kathmandu on March 27. In difficult circumstances, Assistant Commandant Sanjay Kumar, along with his five-member team, reached the summit at 8:15 am on April 19 and hoisted the tricolor and made the nation proud. With this success, ITBP has become the first armed military police force of India to successfully climb Mount Makalu.

The flag-in ceremony of this expedition was held in Delhi on May 14. During this, Union Minister of MoU and Cooperation Amit Shah was present as the chief guest and praised this historic achievement of the team.
