Sujanpur: The ruling Congress has suffered a setback in the by-election of Beed Bagheda Zila Parishad Ward of Sujanpur in Hamirpur, the home district of Himachal Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. Praveen Thakur of the Bharatiya Janata Party defeated Pyaar Chand of the Congress by a margin of 40 votes.
Given the close contest, the Congress demanded a recount. In the end, Praveen Thakur of the BJP got 1964 votes and Pyaar Chand got 1923 votes. For three rounds, Pyaar Chand of the Congress was ahead by 203 votes. In the last round, Praveen Thakur of the BJP turned the tables and won.
Congress has suffered two setbacks in 2 days in Sujanpur. Earlier, Congress had also lost in the by-election of Sujanpur Municipal Council Ward-7 held on Sunday.
In the Municipal Council Ward election, BJP’s Neerja Thakur defeated Congress’s Suman Atwal. Congress has also lost in the Zila Parishad election today.
In the first round of counting, Congress’s Pyaar Chand got 698 votes, BJP’s Praveen Thakur got 425 votes, and independent Subhash Chand got 303 votes. In the second round, Pyaar Chand got 313 votes, Praveen Kumar got 311 votes and independent Subhash Chandra got 400 votes. In the third round, Congress’s Pyaar Chand got 466 votes, Praveen Kumar got 536 votes and independent Subhash Chand got 354 votes.
In the fourth round, BJP’s Praveen Kumar turned the tables and got 684 votes, while Pyaar Chand got 445 votes and independent Subhash Chand got 62 votes. With this, Praveen won the by-election.
