Tragedy on Shrikhand Yatra: 33-Year-old devotee from Chandigarh dies, Family alleges poor arrangements

Chandigarh, July 17: A 33-year-old devotee, Abhay from Chandigarh, died during the Shrikhand Yatra in Himachal Pradesh. The deceased was a resident of Sector 15-D, Chandigarh and had gone on the yatra with his cousin on July 11. The post-mortem of the body will be conducted at Nirmand Hospital. The deceased’s brother has raised questions.

Chandigarh, July 17: A 33-year-old devotee, Abhay from Chandigarh, died during the Shrikhand Yatra in Himachal Pradesh. The deceased was a resident of Sector 15-D, Chandigarh and had gone on the yatra with his cousin on July 11. The post-mortem of the body will be conducted at Nirmand Hospital.

The deceased’s brother has raised questions about the arrangements made by the administration during the Yatra. He alleged that a labourer demanded Rs. 65,000 to bring the body down. When he was unable to pay the money, his mobile and other belongings were snatched. SDM Nirand Manmohan said that such a complaint has definitely been received. It will be investigated.

Abhay had gone on a trip with his cousin on July 11

According to the information, Abhay had gone on Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra with his cousin and both were returning after visiting Shrikhand on Tuesday. Abhay’s health deteriorated near Parvati Bagh. From where he was brought to Bhim-Dwari by the rescue team.

After first aid, Abhay’s health improved slightly, after which the rescue team was bringing him from Bhim-Dwari to Base Camp Singhgad via Jao and then to Nirmand Civil Hospital, but Abhay died between Singhgad and Jao. Due to the road being closed, the body is still in Jao. After some time the body will be brought to Nirmand for post-mortem.

The journey started on 10 July

Let us tell you that the Shrikhand Yatra officially started on July 10. This is the first death during the yatra this year. Every year many travellers lose their lives in this difficult yatra due to dangerous paths, lack of oxygen and extreme cold.

42 have died so far

According to the statistics, 42 deaths have taken place so far, while last year itself 5 pilgrims died during the Shrikhand Yatra. If we look at the statistics of deaths so far, most of the dead are youngsters between the ages of 18 and 35.

Shrikhand Yatra is extremely difficult, due to which many devotees have died, despite the difficulties there is no decrease in the faith of the devotees of Mahadev. Devotees believe that only after overcoming the difficulties one can attain the proximity of Mahadev and wishes are fulfilled.
