Shimla: Snowfall started in the evening in the higher regions of Lahaul Spiti in Himachal Pradesh. One inch of fresh snow has fallen in the Rohtang tunnel. After this, the roads have become slippery.
Lahaul Spiti Police has advised against unnecessary travel to high altitudes in view of snowfall. Snowfall may occur at night on the high mountains of Kinnaur, Chamba, Shimla, Mandi and Kullu districts. Shimla also witnessed light drizzle in the evening.
According to the Meteorological Department (IMD), light snowfall may occur in higher regions and rain in lower regions tonight. If IMD is to be believed, the weather will be clear across the state tomorrow. Western Disturbance (WD) will become active again on February 3.
Due to this, there are chances of rain and snowfall on February 4 and 5. Especially on January 4, there may be rain and snowfall in most parts of the state.
84% less rain than normal:
Very little rain has occurred in the state so far. This has led to drought like conditions. Normal rainfall in January is 85.3 mm. But this time only 13.3 mm of rain has fallen. Last year also, 6.8 mm of rain had occurred in January.
According to IMD, this January has received the least rainfall till date. In 2024, there was 92 percent less rainfall than normal, in 2018 it was 90 percent and this time it was 84 percent less than normal.
A rise in temperature
A rise in temperature has been recorded before the rain and snowfall. The average minimum temperature of the state has become 1.2 degrees more than normal and the maximum temperature has also become 2.3 degrees more than normal.
