Snowfall has been occurring in the high-altitude areas of Himachal Pradesh since last night. Snowfall has been continuing in the tourist town of Manali since 4 am. Fresh snow has fallen up to 4 inches here. After the fresh snowfall, Atal Tunnel Rohtang has been closed for vehicles.
Narkanda, Kharapathar, and Kufri in Shimla received light snowfall, while Shimla city received a hailstorm at midnight. Most parts of the state also received good rain at night. This has brought some relief to farmers and gardeners from drought.
There has been good snowfall in the high-altitude areas of Lahaul Spiti and Kullu district. After this, the roads became slippery and the movement of vehicles had to be stopped. Lahaul Spiti Police has appealed to tourists and locals not to go to high-altitude areas.
Snowfall will continue till this afternoon
According to the Meteorological Department, rain and snowfall will continue till this afternoon. The weather will remain clear for two days tomorrow and day after, but there is a possibility of rain and snowfall again on February 8.
There has been two centimeters of snowfall around the Atal Tunnel. There have been nine centimeters of snowfall on the Bharmour and Pangi peaks of Chamba. There has also been snowfall on the hills of Mani Mahesh, Kugti, Chauvia, Khapras, Kalichauh and Dhauladhar in Kangra. There has been rain in many areas of Kangra district. This has given a new lease of life to the crops. However, more rain is needed for wheat.
Snowfall also occurred in most of the high-altitude areas of the tribal district Kinnaur. Rain continued in the lower areas. On the other hand, the capital Shimla remained cloudy throughout the day. There was light rain in the city in the afternoon. The maximum temperature was recorded at 25.0 in Una, 23.2 in Bilaspur, 22.9 in Sundernagar, 22.8 in Bhuntar, 22.0 in Solan-Kangra, 20.7 in Mandi, 20.0 in Nahan, 17.9 in Dharamsala, 17.6 in Shimla, 14.7 in Manali, 7.0 in Kalpa and 4.6 degrees Celsius in Keylong.
