Storm wreak havoc in Himachal: Power outage, crop damage, orange alert issued

Last night, a storm caused devastation in Himachal Pradesh. The storm blew away roofs of many houses at a speed of 50 to 80 kilometres per hour.

Shimla: Last night, a storm caused devastation in Himachal Pradesh. The storm blew away roofs of many houses at a speed of 50 to 80 kilometres per hour. Trees were uprooted in many places. The storm also damaged power lines. This has led to a blackout in half of Himachal.

Hundreds of villages and houses in Shimla city, Kangra, Barsar, Sujanpur, Una and Chamba are in darkness since last night. In many places, electricity could not be restored even at 9 am.

The roofs of many houses were blown away in Theog of Shimla, Seraj of Mandi, Ani, Kangra, Sirmaur, Solan. Trees were uprooted from their roots at many places in the state after the storm. Due to this, many roads were also closed for traffic.

The storm has caused a lot of damage in the state. Wheat crop has also been destroyed in the plains. Apple crop has also been damaged in Shimla, Kullu, Chamba districts. In these districts, apple plants were uprooted from the roots. In Kangra, tents erected for weddings were also blown away. Due to this, there was an atmosphere of fear among the people till 1 o’clock in the night.

Rain and hailstorm warning for next 4 days

According to the Meteorological Department, Western Disturbance will remain active in the state for the next 4 days. Especially tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, an orange alert has been issued for storm along with heavy rain in the state.

Heavy rain and hailstorm may occur at some places in Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Shimla and Lahaul Spiti districts on 18 and 19 April. A warning has also been issued for storms blowing at a speed of 40 to 50 kilometers in these districts.
