Shimla, May 11: Subedar Major Pawan Kumar of Himachal Pradesh, who was martyred in Jammu and Kashmir, will be cremated with state honours today. His body will be brought to Shahpur in Kangra. There was continuous firing from Pakistan in Rajouri late on Friday night.
In response to this, Subedar Major Pawan Kumar along with his fellow soldiers gave a befitting reply. During this he got shot. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where he died. Pawan Kumar was about to retire after 2 months.
Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said that Subedar Major Pawan Kumar has made the supreme sacrifice to maintain the unity and sovereignty of the country and the grateful nation will always remember his sacrifice. The state government stands with the family in this hour of grief and all possible assistance will be provided to them.
Martyrdom two months before retirement
Pawan Kumar was posted in 25 Punjab Regiment. He was to retire after two months. He was martyred before that. Pawan Kumar has left behind his son, daughter, wife and parents. Martyr’s father Garaj Singh is also retired from the army as a Havaldar.
Family members received the information at 9 am on Saturday
Shubham, a councillor from ward no. 4 of Shahpur Nagar Panchayat, said that the army informed the family members about Pawan Kumar’s martyrdom at 9 am on Saturday. After this, a wave of mourning spread in the entire area. He said that the postmortem of the martyr’s body has been done in Rajouri. The body will be brought to the native village on Sunday.
SDM said – information received from family
On the other hand, Shahpur SDM Kartar Chand said that information about Pawan Kumar’s martyrdom was received from his family. Details are being sought from his unit. Apart from this, information is also being collected from the family.
