Sullah, which is famous for its high production of litchi under Sullah assembly constituency and is called the stronghold of litchi in the state, has earned a name.
However, this time due to bad weather, there has been a huge decline in the production of litchi crop as compared to last year. This time due to heavy heat and lack of rain in the litchi season, the business of litchi which used to be of crores has been reduced to lakhs. Due to this, this season is proving to be a loss deal.
Contractor Dilshan from Delhi, contractor Nandlal from Jawali and local contractors Vamdev, Tej Pal, Kala Ram, Ajay Chaddha, Gyan Chand, Sansar Chand, Bunty, Chaina and others said that this time the litchi crop has produced less than last season.
He added that they are still not able to get the right price in the market because this time due to the change in weather and rain, the litchi has burst and is falling due to ripening early.
Due to this we are facing a loss of lakhs. According to the contractors, the production of thousands of quintals of litchi has come down to hundreds of quintals this time.
Contractors and farmers have demanded proper compensation from the state government.
It is worth noting that the litchi season fills the pockets of everyone including the garden owners because during the season, more than a thousand people of Sullah get employment opportunities and people coming from outside are also getting employment from it. At the same time, contractor Dilshan from Delhi said that the condition of litchi crop is bad this season as compared to last year.
