Shimla: There is a possibility of light snowfall in the high-altitude areas amid the cold wave that has been going on for 5 days in Himachal Pradesh. According to the Meteorological Department (IMD), light snowfall may occur on the high peaks of Lahaul Spiti, Chamba and Kullu on December 23. During this time the weather will remain clear in other areas.
At the same time, the Meteorological Department has issued a cold wave alert in 7 districts till December 23. An orange alert has been given in Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, and Mandi, while a yellow alert has been issued in Kangra, Chamba, and Kullu districts. This will cause severe cold in the plains. Given this, people have been advised to be cautious.
Meteorologist Shobhit Katiyar said that cold air is coming from the plains of the state from neighboring states. These winds are not able to reach the middle and high areas. Its effect is being felt in the plains only. Due to this, the plains are getting colder than the mountains.
