SDO fined for delay in RTI, have to pay Rs 20,000

After not getting the information under the Right to Information on time, the matter reached the State Information Commission.

Himachal Pradesh: The Assistant Engineer has been fined for eight months’ delay in the information sought under the Right to Information.

The State Information Commissioner has given this decision after the hearing. The female assistant engineer will have to pay a fine of Rs 20,000. In this decision, if the Assistant Engineer Solan does not pay the fine amount, further action will be taken against him.

The Assistant Engineer is also the Public Information Officer in Municipal Corporation Solan and he had to provide information in this regard.

Under the Right to Information, the aggrieved party had sent a letter by registered post for the first time on April 26, 2023. No reply was given in this regard till September 29.

After not getting the information under the Right to Information on time, the matter reached the State Information Commission and on April 8, the Assistant Engineer was directed to appear in the matter, but she could not appear. State Information Commissioner RD Dhiman said that the first notice was given in this matter on April 30, but despite this notice no action was taken. After this, a show cause notice was issued by the commission on May 6, but no positive reply was sent to the State Information Commission until the hearing of the case on May 30.

Using the Right to Information Act 2005, the commission has ordered the Assistant Engineer, Municipal Corporation Solan to pay a fine of Rs 20,000.
