Shimla : There is a possibility of avalanche in Chamba, Kullu, Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti of Himachal Pradesh. The Meteorological Department has advised people living in these areas to take special precautions. Along with this, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert in the state for the next 24 hours.
During this period, there is a possibility of snowfall in high altitude areas. According to the Meteorological Department, snowfall is again forecast in the higher areas of Shimla, Kullu, Lahaul Spiti, Kinnaur and Chamba.
The weather will remain clear in the state for two days on March 8 and 9. But, western disturbance will be active again on March 10. 12 people have died in the state in the last five days.
Among these, maximum four people have died in Solan, three in Shimla, two each in Sirmaur and Una while one person has died in Kinnaur. During this period, 23 people were also injured in accidents at different places.
At the same time, due to snowfall in the state during the last three-four days, 472 roads and 849 electricity transformers have come to a standstill in the state.
Due to this, hundreds of villages are immersed in darkness for five days. Karu villages of Kullu, Lahaul Spiti, Kinnaur and Chamba districts are cut off from the district headquarters. Due to closure of roads, supply of food items for daily consumption in Bharmour of Chamba, Lahaul Spiti district and Karu areas of Kinnaur has been disrupted for four-five days.
The roads could not be restored due to heavy snowfall. In such a situation, due to rain and snowfall again, the work of restoration of roads, electricity and water will be hampered.
Due to snowfall in snow-bound areas the temperature has dropped well below the freezing point. Due to this the water pipes have frozen.
