Vimal Negi Case: Forensic investigation confirms tampering of pen drive, ASI also accused

Shimla SP Sanjeev Gandhi met Advocate General Anoop Ratan on Sunday and discussed the legal aspects.

After the letter written by the Superintendent of Police to challenge the death of Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Chief Engineer Vimal Negi in the double bench, the CBI teams did not reach Shimla for investigation on Sunday. The CBI is now taking an opinion on this, and can also file an application in the Himachal High Court for not giving the record. Shimla SP Sanjeev Gandhi met Advocate General Anoop Ratan on Sunday and discussed the legal aspects.

On Monday, the SP can file an LPA in the High Court. On the other hand, Shimla Police has made suspended ASI Pankaj an accused in the case of hiding evidence. This action has been taken after the data was confirmed to be deleted from the pen drive in the Forensic Science Lab. Section 241 has been imposed on the accused in the case of hiding evidence and tampering with it.

It is being told that SP Gandhi has written a letter to the CBI headquarters informing about challenging the High Court’s decision to hand over the investigation to the CBI in the double bench. CBI Headquarters Delhi has formed two teams under the leadership of Jammu and Kashmir cadre DIG Abdul Jabbar and DSP Rajesh Kumar Jha.

On Saturday, the CBI Shimla team reached the SP office to take the record, but the SP refused saying that he is challenging the decision of the single bench in the double bench. SP Shimla personally appeared in the court and told that Vimal Negi died in Bilaspur, the post-mortem was also done there. This was outside his jurisdiction. He said that ASI Pankaj was a part of the SIT formed by the DGP to search for Vimal Negi, while the SIT of Shimla has searched for the pen drive.

The security of ASI Pankaj, who was suspended on the charge of hiding and formatting the pen drive in the case of Vimal Negi, who was the Chief Engineer of the Power Corporation, has been tightened. Armed soldiers have been deployed at Pankaj’s residence located in a village of sub-tehsil Bharari.

The court has issued special guidelines to IG South Range and SP Shimla to avoid any unpleasant situation. In compliance with these orders, Pankaj is being provided 24-hour security. It is worth noting that serious allegations have been leveled against ASI Pankaj in the much talked about Vimal Negi case. He is accused of hiding and formatting a pen drive related to the case. Considering the sensitivity of the case, the ASI has already been suspended. The administration is ensuring that the judicial process is not obstructed and the investigation is completed in a fair and transparent manner.
