Shimla: Local people in Joginder nagar of Mandi today protested outside the SDM office and Jal Shakti Department office against the increase in water bills by the Himachal government. Angry people have demanded the withdrawal of the increase in water bills.
The state government has increased water bills in urban areas by Rs 1000. Vice President of Nagar Parishad Ajay Dharwal said that earlier the bill for three months used to come around Rs 710. This time it has increased to Rs 1710.
He said that the government has already increased electricity rates and house tax, now the increase in water bills will put an additional burden on the pocket of the common man. People are upset with this.
Increase in water bills is not logical: Mamta
Chairman of Nagar Parishad Mamta Kapoor said that this decision is not logical. There is no shortage of water in Himachal and water is available in abundance. Councillor Sheela expressed concern for the poor in this era of inflation and also raised questions on the availability and quality of ration.
If the hike is not withdrawn, we will protest
The protesters warned that if the government does not withdraw the hike in the bills, there will be a large-scale protest, for which the government will be responsible.
