Water shortage in Shimla, PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh puts construction work on hold

Regarding this matter, PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh held a meeting with the officials of Shimla Jal Prabandhan Nigam (SJPN) and Municipal Corporation Shimla.

Shimla: Any kind of construction work has been completely banned in Himachal Pradesh’s capital Shimla. The government has taken this strict decision due to the shortage of drinking water in Shimla city. This order will continue till the level of water increases.

Regarding this matter, PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh held a meeting with the officials of Shimla Jal Prabandhan Nigam (SJPN) and Municipal Corporation Shimla.

Talking to the media after the meeting, Vikramaditya Singh said that there is a water shortage in Shimla city. He said that the city needs 48 to 50 MLD water daily to meet the requirements whereas on the contrary only 35 MLD water is being supplied right now.

Water is also being supplied through tankers in Shimla city. Monsoon is expected to arrive by next week. In such a situation, it is expected that this water problem will be resolved soon.

Vikramaditya Singh said that work is going on on a 50 to 60 MLD scheme with the cooperation of the World Bank. Water will be brought from Sunni area. The work of the scheme will be completed by the end of this year or next year. With the start of this scheme, there will be no problem of drinking water in the city.

Hotels are being given water on the lines of homes


He said that in view of the current drinking water problem, it has been decided that all types of construction work, including buildings, inside Shimla city will be stopped till further orders.

He has appealed to the people for cooperation and requested them to save drinking water. Vikramaditya Singh clarified that hotels are being given water on the same lines as homes are being supplied. No extra water is being supplied to any hotel.
