Himachal’s Muslim Community Demands Declaration of Cow as National Animal

‘Anjuman Islamia,’ a prominent Muslim organization based in Nahan, the headquarters of District Sirmour, has taken a significant step by demanding that the cow be declared the national animal. In this regard, the organization has submitted a petition to the government through the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Nahan.

The Muslim community asserts that they view the cow as a symbol of national pride and have no objection to it being accorded the status of the national animal. The letter, submitted on behalf of Anjuman Islamia President Gulmannawar Ahmed, demands that slaughterhouses operating across the country be shut down with immediate effect.

The organization has argued that such a measure would not only put an end to animal cruelty but also convey a positive message to society. The letter also expresses deep concern regarding the issue of stray animals and the accidents involving them. The organization stated that individuals who abandon their livestock on the streets are responsible for the accidents that subsequently befall these animals. The letter calls for strict legal action against such owners to ensure the safety of innocent animals dying in road accidents, as well as that of people sustaining injuries.

Copies of this letter have also been sent to the State Chief Minister and the Deputy Commissioner of Sirmour. Captain Salim Ahmed, Mubarak Ali, Mumtaz Khan, Mobeen, Israr Khan, and Zahi Ansari were also present on this occasion.
