PM Modi, HM Shah to Attend Himanta Sarma’s Swearing-In Ceremony Today

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in Assam on Tuesday, where Himanta Biswa Sarma is set to take oath as Chief Minister for a second consecutive term.

The Prime Minister arrived in Guwahati on Monday night and was received at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport by Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam BJP President Dilip Saikia, and senior government officials.

Ahead of the ceremony, Sarma reviewed preparations at the Veterinary College ground in Khanapara, where the oath-taking event is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on May 12. He said the ceremony would be attended by top NDA leaders and BJP workers from across the state.

According to Sarma, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP president Nitin Nabin, and Chief Ministers from NDA-ruled states are also expected to attend the event.

Authorities have implemented elaborate security arrangements across the Khanapara area due to the presence of the Prime Minister and other senior leaders. Barricades, traffic diversions, and multi-layered security deployment have been put in place, while senior police officials conducted preparedness reviews on Monday.

Thousands of BJP workers and booth-level karyakartas from different parts of Assam are expected to participate in the ceremony.

Sarma also announced that the first Cabinet meeting of the new government would be held shortly after the swearing-in ceremony. He said fulfilling the BJP’s electoral promises and continuing the state’s development agenda would remain key priorities for the new administration.

The BJP-led NDA secured a decisive victory in the recently concluded Assam Assembly elections, paving the way for Sarma’s return as Chief Minister.
