Growing Concerns Over Attacks on Minorities in Bangladesh

This incident comes at a time when violent incidents targeting minority communities have increased in Bangladesh in recent months. These incidents are reportedly intensified following the death of alleged anti-India student leader Sharif Osman Hadi.

On December 18th, Dipu Chandra Das, a garment worker, was beaten to death by a mob for alleged blasphemy, and his body was later burned. Subsequently, Amrit Mandal, described by police as a habitual offender, was beaten to death by a mob in Rajbari district on charges of extortion.

Similar incidents occurred last year. Hindu businessman Liton Chandra Das was lynched by a mob in Kaliganj, while a petrol pump employee, Ripan Saha, was crushed to death by a vehicle while trying to stop someone from taking a vehicle away without paying.
