Hisar Students Block Bus Stand Gate Over GJU Student’s Accident, Demand Bus Stop and Driver Action

Hisar: Students of Guru Jambheshwar University (GJU) blocked the main gate of the Hisar bus stand on Thursday, protesting the road accident that left a university student critically injured. The students demanded a permanent bus stop outside GJU, action against the roadways bus driver and financial assistance for the injured student’s family.

Vijeta, a second-year Psychology student at GJU and a resident of Sonipat, was critically injured after being struck by a roadways bus at Barwala Chungi in Hisar around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday. She is currently undergoing treatment on a ventilator at a private hospital in the city.

GJU Students Demand Bus Stop Outside University

Students gathered outside the Hisar roadways bus stand and blocked its main gate as a mark of protest following the accident.

Student leader Harikesh Dhanda said similar accidents have occurred outside GJU in the past. Students are often forced to get down from buses directly onto the road, making a permanent bus stop outside the university a key demand.

The protesting students also demanded strict action against the driver involved in the accident and financial assistance for Vijeta’s family.

GJU Student Trapped Under Bus Tires

According to the details of the incident, Vijeta had travelled on a roadways bus operating under the Rohtak Depot’s ‘kilometer scheme’. She got off the bus at Barwala Chungi on Tuesday while heading towards GJU.

After getting down from the bus, she started walking forward. At that moment, the driver began turning the vehicle, and Vijeta came under the rear tires of the bus. Half of her body became trapped underneath the vehicle.

The student remained trapped under the tires for around 10 minutes. Passengers alerted the police and tried to rescue her. Eventually, a man boarded the bus and reversed it, after which the student was pulled out. She was unconscious at the time.

Driver and Conductor Fled After Accident

Following the accident, the driver and conductor allegedly abandoned the bus and fled the spot.

Vijeta was taken to the emergency ward of the Civil Hospital, where she received first aid. Due to her critical condition, she was referred for further treatment. Her acquaintances subsequently took her to a private hospital, where she is currently being treated on a ventilator.

Police have registered a case in connection with the incident.
