Hisar: A major emergency was averted after an LPG gas leak was detected in a tanker of a freight train near Hisar railway station on Tuesday morning. The train, carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from Bathinda in Punjab to Jhajjar in Haryana, was immediately halted after railway staff noticed gas leaking from one of its tankers during inspection.
The incident took place near the Suryanagar railway crossing, a densely populated residential area close to Hisar railway station, prompting railway authorities to launch an emergency response. Fire brigade teams, railway officials, police personnel and technical experts rushed to the spot to prevent any untoward incident.
The affected tanker was detached from the freight train and shifted to an isolated location near the crossing to minimise risk while repair work was carried out.
Technical Teams From Punjab, Jind Join Rescue Operation
According to railway officials, the leak was detected at around 8 am during a routine inspection after the train reached Hisar station. Technical teams from Bathinda and Jind, along with senior railway officials, were called to the site to assess the situation.
Inspection revealed that LPG was leaking from the upper lid of the tanker. Officials from the Fire Department, Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP) and the District Food and Supplies Controller (DFSC) also joined the operation.
The tanker was carrying around 37 tonnes of LPG. Repair work continued for nearly two-and-a-half to three hours, following which the leakage was successfully sealed.
Leak Under Control, No Casualties Reported
Railway Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Amit Sudarshan said the railway administration went on high alert immediately after receiving information about the gas leak.
He said the affected wagon was isolated, emergency teams were deployed promptly and the leak was brought under control without any injuries or damage.
Officials confirmed that the situation is now completely under control and there is no threat to nearby residents.
Railways Orders Investigation Into Incident
The Railways has initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the leak. Authorities will examine whether the incident resulted from a technical fault, equipment failure or any operational lapse.
The probe will also assess whether all prescribed safety protocols were followed and recommend measures to prevent similar incidents in future.
