Punjab: In a major boost to religious and regional connectivity, the Indian Railways has approved a historic rail link to Talwandi Sabo, home to Takht Sri Damdama Sahib, one of the five sacred Takhts of Sikhism.
With this development, all five Takhts will now be connected through the railway network, marking a significant milestone for devotees and infrastructure in Punjab.
Union Minister of State for Railways, Ravneet Singh Bittu, announced the project in Bathinda, calling it “not just a railway line, but a symbol of faith, pride, and long overdue justice for Punjab.” He emphasized that the initiative strengthens both spiritual and regional connectivity.
Major Infrastructure Push
The project, part of the Raman Mandi–Sadda Singhwala New Broad Gauge Rail Line under the Mansa–Bathinda Doubling Project, will span 42.9 km with an estimated cost of ₹1,118.47 crore. The cost per kilometer stands at ₹26.07 crore.
Covering both Mansa and Bathinda districts, the rail line is expected to significantly enhance transportation and support regional development.

Political Reactions
During his address, Ravneet Singh Bittu criticized previous governments, including the Indian National Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, and Shiromani Akali Dal, alleging that they failed to develop infrastructure and adequately honor Sikh heritage.
He credited the current leadership under Narendra Modi for prioritizing development projects that respect religious sentiments and improve public life.

The new rail link is expected to make pilgrimage travel easier for thousands of devotees while also boosting tourism and economic activity in the region. Officials say the project reflects a long-awaited step toward integrating Punjab’s spiritual landmarks with modern infrastructure.
