History-sheeter rams police vehicles in Jhunjhunu chase

A dramatic police chase unfolded in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district after a history-sheeter allegedly rammed his pickup vehicle into police cars while attempting to escape arrest. The incident left four police personnel, including an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), injured and damaged multiple police vehicles.

According to officials, the incident took place late on Friday night in the Gudha-Gaudji area of Jhunjhunu, where police had launched an operation to capture a wanted criminal identified as Rohit Mahla, a history-sheeter with several criminal cases against him.

Police had been tracking the accused

Police said they had received a tip-off that Rohit Mahla was moving around the area and could be planning a serious crime. Acting on the information, a police team began monitoring his movements and prepared a strategy to apprehend him.

Authorities had reportedly been keeping watch on him for several days before they finally traced his location on Friday night. A team led by ASI Sajjan Kumar moved to intercept the suspect near Bandiya Nala in the Gudha-Gaudji region.

Police vehicles were positioned both ahead of and behind the suspect’s pickup van in an attempt to block his escape route.

Accused rams police vehicles to escape

However, when the suspect realized that he had been surrounded, he allegedly tried to flee instead of surrendering. Investigators said he deliberately rammed his pickup vehicle into the police vehicles blocking his way.

First, he crashed into the police vehicle stationed in front of him and then reversed his pickup van to hit another police vehicle standing behind him. The collisions caused extensive damage to both vehicles.

The impact of the crash was so severe that the airbags in one of the police vehicles deployed automatically, while the windshields and doors were badly damaged.

Four policemen injured in the incident

During the collision, four policemen sustained injuries. The injured included ASI Sajjan Kumar, along with constables Ashok, Ravikant, and the police vehicle driver Bhupendra.

Officials said Bhupendra suffered a fracture in his arm, while the other policemen sustained injuries to their hands and legs. All injured officers were rushed to a nearby community health centre for treatment.

After receiving primary medical care, most of the injured officers were discharged.

    Eight-kilometre chase before arrest

Following the collision, the accused continued trying to escape, leading to a dramatic chase through nearby roads. Police teams pursued the suspect for nearly eight kilometres while he repeatedly attempted to evade them.

The chase lasted for nearly one and a half hours before the suspect’s pickup vehicle suddenly broke down. Seizing the opportunity, police teams surrounded the vehicle again and managed to arrest Rohit Mahla.

However, some of his associates who were present during the incident managed to flee in the darkness.

    Accused faces multiple criminal cases

Police officials revealed that Rohit Mahla is a notorious criminal with around 19 serious cases registered against him. These include charges such as attempted murder, robbery, and violent assault.

Authorities also said that the accused had been released from jail on bail just about a month ago and had allegedly resumed criminal activities soon after.

    Investigation underway

Following the incident, police registered a case against the accused for attacking police personnel, damaging government property, and attempting to escape arrest.

Authorities are also conducting raids to track down the accomplices who fled from the scene.

The dramatic chase and attack on police vehicles created panic in the area and highlighted the challenges faced by law enforcement while dealing with hardened criminals. Police officials have stated that strict action will be taken against the accused under relevant sections of the law.
