HM Amit Shah dials Suvendu Adhikari, enquires about attack on his convoy in Bengal Kolkata

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday spoke to Suvendu Adhikari, Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, over the phone to inquire about the attack on his convoy in Chandrakona, West Midnapore district. Adhikari’s office has also sent five videos related to the incident to the Union Home Ministry.

Home Ministry seeks report, videos submitted

Earlier in the day, the Union Home Ministry had sought a report from the Leader of the Opposition’s office regarding the attack. According to sources, the videos sent show that the attack on Adhikari’s convoy was pre-planned and that the local police were allegedly “inactive” during the incident.

In a conversation that lasted approximately 15 minutes, Suvendu Adhikari gave Amit Shah a complete account of the incident in Chandrakona. He claimed that the attack was pre-planned and that there was no concrete intervention by the police on the spot.

Announcement of going to the High Court and protesting

Adhikari said that he would approach the Calcutta High Court regarding the matter. He also announced that he would lead a protest march at the site of the attack in Chandrakona on January 13th.

The incident occurred late Saturday evening when Suvendu Adhikari was returning to Kolkata after attending a political event in Purulia district. According to Adhikari, as his convoy was crossing the four-way intersection in the Chandrakona Road Market area, some Trinamool Congress workers, carrying party flags, suddenly blocked the road.

Attack with bamboo sticks, police accused of inaction

The officer alleged that the attackers attacked his convoy with bamboo sticks and also targeted his bulletproof vehicle. He said this continued for a long time, but the local police did not arrive at the scene.

After somehow escaping, the officer went straight to the Chandrakona police station and sat on the floor to register his protest.

Attacks have happened before

This is not the first time the Leader of the Opposition’s convoy has been attacked. In August 2025, people allegedly associated with the Trinamool Congress attempted to stop his convoy in Cooch Behar, North Bengal.
